West Ham ‘ready to get serious’ for attacker – Hammers have ‘no problem’ paying for signing

West Ham United are ‘ready to get serious’ for Spezia star M’Bala Nzola, according to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Calcio Spezia.

The striker has 14 goals and three assists from 25 matches this season. His fine displays have seen him draw attention from several European clubs.

West Ham are the only club tagged in the report for the 26-year-old, who has a deal until 2024.

Earlier this month, Spezia sporting director Stefano Melissano admitted his side have opened talks with the Angola international over a new deal. Meanwhile, the chief had also opened the door for the player’s sale in the summer.

“Nzola? The player has expressed an interest in staying, and we are negotiating the renewal of the contract. He will only go away for a top club and for a suitable offer. The figures that have been circulated are good for the first of five installments,” he said.

Il Secolo XIX state the ‘right offer’ could come from West Ham, who have a strong interest in the frontman, valued at €20-25m by Spezia.

Nzola’s representative, Giovanni Branchini, has maintained an ‘excellent relationship’ with the Hammers since he took another client, Angelo Ogbonna, from Juventus to the London club in 2015.

West Ham invested €40m on Gianluca Scamacca last summer and he has struggled this season. Taking this into account, David Moyes’ side would have ‘no problem’ in investing €20m on Nzola in the next window.

It’ll be interesting to see what Nzola plans to do if West Ham were to make a convincing offer to Spezia.

When will the penny drop that it's not the fault of the strikers we buy (Haller, Scamacca) but of the way we don't play to their strengths. Buying more strikers won't change this. Keep Scamacca, change the way we play!
